RCMC | Hajj 1444H - Slaughterhouse WWT
During Hajj 1444H, GI AQUA Tech delivered a groundbreaking wastewater treatment project at Al-Mu'aysam slaughterhouse in Mecca — one of the most logistically challenging and environmentally sensitive operations in the world. Over a 3.5-day window, the facility processed wastewater from over one million animal sacrifices, totaling approximately 80,000 m³.
The solution featured mobile, 40-foot containerized units powered by proprietary G.NANO technology, each capable of treating 1,000 m³/day. This advanced chemical, non-biological process achieved 90% BOD removal, 80% energy savings, 90% footprint reduction, and a treatment cycle of just 20 minutes per batch, with zero odor or noise emissions.
All treated water was reused for agriculture, while extracted sludge was repurposed as raw material, supporting Saudi Arabia’s circular economy goals. The project eliminated the need for evaporation ponds, cut CO₂ emissions from transport, and mitigated public health risks.
Recognized by the Royal Court and the Saudi Green Initiative, the project was showcased at COP28 in Dubai and shortlisted by Global Water Magazine among the world’s top four industrial projects of the year.
This initiative set a new global benchmark for high-load, short-duration wastewater treatment, proving that nanotechnology and modular systems can outperform traditional biological plants — even under extreme peak demand conditions.
